Union Station Office Building with DaVita as Anchor Tenant Tops Out

(Denver, Colo.) – November 21, 2017 – Saunders Construction, in partnership with global real estate investment manager and building owner Invesco Real Estate, developer East West Partners and architect Gensler, announced today that the 16 Chestnut building in the Union Station neighborhood has topped out and the exterior glass has reached the final building height. This is a major milestone for a building that makes extensive use of glass, allowing for striking views of the city and the Rocky Mountains from each floor. The milestone was celebrated with a ceremony onsite on November 16th.

“This will be one of the most unique buildings in the new Union Station neighborhood and the installation of the glass to level 19 marks a significant moment in the evolution of this project,” said Nathan Wilks, Senior Project Manager for Saunders Construction.

The 250-foot-tall, 430,000-square-foot 16 Chestnut development is essentially two buildings in one, as it fronts both 16th and 17th Streets. Expanding its current headquarters located across the street, DaVita Healthcare Partners will occupy approximately 342,534 square feet and have their own entrance and lobby. An additional 80,000 square feet of space is available to be leased, including a separate lobby and elevator bank for tenants.

“This is one of the last buildings to be completed in the Union Station area and as co-master developers of the transit hub and active developers in the surrounding community it’s very exciting to see the Union Station neighborhood’s renaissance nearing its pinnacle,” said Amy Cara, Managing Partner of East West Partners – Denver.

Designed by Gensler, 16 Chestnut is targeting LEED Platinum certification upon completion for its environmentally friendly design and operations.

“The building’s design reflects an appropriate urban response from multiple vantage points because of its prominent location at the termination of the 16th Street Pedestrian Mall,” said Brent Mather, Design Principal of Gensler. “At this stage, the contrasting qualities of the rusticated concrete base and the elegant glass curtain wall above are evident. 16 Chestnut will set a new standard for a next-generation creative office building in Downtown Denver.”

The 16 Chestnut building broke ground in June 2016 and is scheduled to be complete in late 2018.

“We are excited about the progress underway to this truly unique urban campus,” said James McPhail, DaVita Head of Real Estate. “As a hometown company, it is gratifying to see the responsible, sustainable development in lower downtown Denver.”
